Farewell 2010

Last night we attempted to see the local 9pm fireworks; only to get caught in the crazy traffic and watch them from our car. From a photography viewpoint this without doubt a disaster, however it inspired me to stretch out my waking hours to see in the first day of 2011 and see the midnight fireworks.

R and I went up onto Knapsack Bridge just before midnight, joining a group of revelers already there and shortly after joined by another group, there were more people celebrating on the lookout above where we were.

At night it's hard to tell where things are overlooking Sydney and we thought we couldn't see the local fireworks due to the trees. On returning to the bridge in the morning, however, it was clear that we had seen the Penrith fireworks as well as those over Blacktown, Parramatta, the Hills District and in the very far distance the millions of dollars worth of fireworks over the City of Sydney.

This was my first attempt at photographing fireworks having read up on the subject a little and with a DSLR camera, all previous attempts were with point and shoot cameras and no knowledge of shutter speeds, aperture, etc. (Not to say that I have a great amount of knowledge now of course!)
